We’ll prioritize Teacher training, capacity building – TRCN Chairman, Comrade Mustapha

The newly appointed Chairman, Board of Directors, Teachers’ Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN), Comr. Mustapha Salihu, PhD, has reaffirmed his commitment to prioritizing teacher training and capacity building as key pillars of educational reform in Nigeria.

Dr. Salihu gave the assurance on Wednesday during a familiarization visit to the TRCN headquarters in Abuja, where he pledged to advance teachers’ welfare, uphold professional standards, and enhance the administration of the Council’s affairs.

According to him, TRCN will witness significant improvements in teacher training, licensing, and capacity-building initiatives designed to equip Nigerian teachers with modern pedagogical skills.

He said, “Our focus is to ensure that educators are well-equipped to meet contemporary teaching standards.

“A well-trained teacher is the foundation of a strong educational system, and we must invest in their continuous development. We will prioritize teacher training and capacity building to enhance the quality of education in Nigeria.“

The APC chieftain, who also serves as the party’s Northeast Vice Chairman, underscored the need for digital literacy among teachers, stressing that Nigeria’s education system must align with global trends.

He further assured the TRCN management that necessary policies and reforms would be introduced to strengthen the Council’s operations, ensuring that teachers receive the support and resources needed to excel in their profession.

In her remarks, TRCN’s Acting Registrar and Chief Executive, Dr. Stella-Maria Nwokeocha, welcomed Salihu and expressed confidence that his leadership would bring positive transformations to the Council.

She reaffirmed TRCN’s commitment to collaborating with the new Board Chairman to advance its mission of ensuring that only qualified and licensed teachers are allowed to practice in Nigeria.
