The All Progressives Congress (APC) has postponed the formal reception of Taraba State Governor, Dr Agbu Kefas, earlier scheduled for Wednesday, November 19, 2025, out of respect for victims of recent terrorist attacks and abductions across the country.
The decision was announced on Tuesday evening by the APC National Chairman, Prof Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, through an official statement signed by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka.
“The postponement was made as a mark of honour [for] members of the armed forces and citizens killed recently by forces of terror, and respect for victims of related incidents of abductions especially of innocent students in Kebbi State by enemies of the state,” the statement read.
The party saluted the sacrifices of security forces, prayed for the safe return of abducted schoolchildren, and commiserated with bereaved families. It also restated the Tinubu administration’s commitment to ending insurgency and banditry.
The planned reception was to mark Governor Kefas’s formal defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC. The governor had, over the weekend, publicly confirmed he would join the ruling party on November 19, ending the PDP’s 26-year grip on Taraba State.
Already, the Speaker of the Taraba State House of Assembly, Prof John Bonzena, and 13 other lawmakers have defected to the APC in anticipation of the governor’s move.
Sources close to the governor told journalists that the recent abduction of schoolgirls in Kebbi State and other security incidents weighed heavily on the decision to suspend the high-profile political event.
A new date for the reception will be communicated in due course.
