The Arewa Network for Social Reform (ANSR), has urged President Bola Tinubu, to sack Minister of the FCT, Nyeasom Wike, as a matter of urgency to restore the good name of his (Tinubu) administration.
This was contained in a statement issued by the Deputy PRO of ANSR, Engr. Buba Sani Masanawa, and made available to the media in Kaduna on Monday, April 8 2024.
According to ANSR, as a concerned group, it is calling for the urgent intervention of President Tinubu to save his administration from losing the support and confidence of the people.
The statement reads in part: “Minister Wike must be stopped from using the FCT as a basis to settle the political war that has consumed him in his home State; where the young Fubara has clipped the wings of a self-glorified warrior leaving him high and dry.
“President Tinubu’s policy-roller coaster with Nigerians is facing the danger of being eroded by no less a person than the sensitive-on-the-spur of the movement-relevant seeking Wike,” it stated.
The statement noted that, if Minister Wike is not check will bring the Tinubu administration into disrepute is a foregone conclusion as he relishes in using the instruments of his office to fight his perceived enemies while hiding under the guides of working for the FCT
It further stressed that the brazen manner with which Minister Wike relishes in coveting press and populist attention to his person is so impulsive that the Minister gets lost in self-adulation and grandeur.
The statement continued: “Penultimate week Minister Wike was at the ECOWAS Parliament building ahead of the visit same day of President Tinubu to inaugurate a new session of the ECOWAS parliament; he entered the registration corridor at the ECOWAS Parliament- it was hot inside as the air-conditioning was not working- Lo! and behold, he started his usual off-guarded rantings- WHERE IS……, I WILL SACK…… CALL HIM ON PHONE, TELL HIM TO PACK HIS BAGGAGE AND LEAVE THE OFFICE NOW!-
“This is nothing but disgrace coming from a Minister of the Federal Republic for that matter!
“Later that evening a press statement from his (Minister’s) office said he has sacked some officers of the ICCL and made replacements; stretching the same lawlessness to purportedly revoking the 10-year management contract of Integrated Facility Management Services Ltd which has only gone 3, out of the 10 years.
“Otherwise, how a Minister who has no powers to revoke a subsisting agreement and does not know that a binding contract is a law, and can go on to say he has “revoked” a contract that has due process? Even if the contract is to be revoked, certainly that will not be the Ministerys call.
“We urge the President to ask the FCT Minister to desist from making the empty pronouncements he is fond of making as it brings the Tinubu administration to disrepute Integrated Facility Management Services has a subsisting contract, the terms of which are very clear: Minister Wike cannot revoke it in the unilateral manner he has done.
“It is public knowledge that the appointment of Ambassador Maureen Tamuno as MD ICCL is meant to shore up his dwindling political standing in Rivers State and spite Governor Fubara,” the statement added.
