National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Adamawa State Command has concluded its week-long activity following the commemoration of the United Nations International Day Against Drug Abuse and illicit trafficking Today at the Government House Banquet Hall, Yola.
In the last week, the NDLEA Adamawa state command has conducted a series of activities designed to highlight the importance of the prevention of drug abuse. Sensitization programs were held in schools, faith-based, workplaces, and communities across the state, spreading the message of the dangers of drug Abuse and the importance of making healthy choices.
In a welcome address by the state commander of NDLEA Adamawa command, CN Agboalu Femi Sampson; he mentioned that prevention of drug abuse can be achieved through a multifaceted approach that encompasses education, community engagement, and policy formulation.
” The Advocacy road walk against Drug Abuse held earlier was a resounding success. It was heartening to see citizens from all works of life come together in solidarity, demonstrating our collective resolve to fight this menace. The participation of government officials, NGOs, health sector, community leaders, students, traditional rulers, and religious institutions underscore the unity and commitment we share in this critical endeavor.” He stated
He further stated” Today, as we gather for the grand finale, we are not just celebrating the culmination of a week of activities; we are reaffirming our commitment to a sustained and relentless fight against drug abuse. This event provides an opportunity for dialogue, reflection, and the formulation of strategic plans to enhance our efforts in the years to come.” He added.
The Governor of Adamawa state, Rt Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri ably represented by the Hon commissioner, the minister of rehabilitation, reconstruction, reintegration, and humanitarian service, Barrister Bello spoke on prevention as the most cost-effective way to fight drug abuse.
He talked about different stages of fighting drug Abuse, which he listed as; Awareness and campaigns, equipping the youths with knowledge on the dangers of drugs, timely campaigns in second schools, through community and media outlets, empowerment, and lastly, the need to set up programs that support parents in building strong relationship with their children.
Emir of Bachama Chiefdom, His royal Majesty DR, Haman Dr.Daniel Shaga CON in his goodwill message also stated that this is the most important ritual that needs to be conducted now, before things get out of hand.
” Drug problem Is one challenge that cannot be ignored as we travel towards achieving a sustainable development goal that we have set for ourselves. I believe that this is the reason we are gathered here today, and it is the same reason why the global state community is also commemorating. Together we are focused on how best to handle the drug agenda to find sustainable relief for individual victims, for families, and for the world.” He stated
However, a call was made to all civil society organizations, and NGOs, to work alongside communities and the press in other to develop innovative, preventive strategies and advocate for quality change between now and the next coming June 26 designated for fighting drug Abuse.
The NDLEA commander went further to appreciate the executive governor of Adamawa state, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, for his unwavering support and dedication to this cause and to other numerous stakeholders who have partnered with us, from government agencies to non-governmental organizations, community groups, religious leaders and traditional rulers. Together we have created a formidable network dedicated to preventing drug abuse and supporting those affected by it.
