Adamawa state drug control committee (ASDCC), in collaboration with the national drug law enforcement agency ( NDLEA), Adamawa state chapter today staged an advocacy road work against drug Abuse to commemorate the united nations international day against drug Abuse and illicit trafficking in Adamawa state.
The advocacy road work was flagged off from the Adamawa state NDLEA Command Headquarters in Jimeta, Yola North Local Government, to Jipujam roundabout, Yola market and finally the Palace of the Lamido of Adamawa, HRH Dr Barkindo Aliyu Mustapha, Yola South Local Government
International day against drug Abuse or world drug day is marked on 26 June every year, to create awareness on the dangers of drug Abuse and illicit trafficking with the sole aim of achieving a world free of drug Abuse.
In commemoration of this year’s celebration theme: The Evidence is clear: Invest in prevention. The chairman and chief executive officer of NDLEA, Brig.Gen. Mohammed Buba Maruwa Rit represented by the NDLEA commander Mr Femi samson addressed Youths who are into drugs and illicit trafficking to abstain from the use of drugs.
“If you have not started taking drugs, Don’t. If you have started taking it, or experimenting it such as going to the toilet or hidden places, Quite. And if you are already addicted, meaning you cannot do without drugs you are doing devastating damage to your health.” He stated
He advised all drug users and addict to seek treatment using the NDLEA helpline which he described is toll free. 08001020304
He went further to advise parents to train their children in the right way, seeing the the holy Bible and Quran condemn it and so that the children can live a meaningful life.
Also, His Royal Highness the Lamido Adamawa, Dr Aliyu expressed gratitude to the Executive Chairman Mohammed Buba and members of the NDLEA for being able to deliver their mandate in curtailing the sales, importation, exportation of drugs and other illicit substance.
” I am aware of all the tremendous efforts you are making in addressing the issue of drug Abuse particularly in Adamawa state. I encourage you to do more and assure you maximum support from the entire Emirates counsel particularly the district heads.” He stated.
