Yobe donates relief materials to flood victims of Potiskum and Jakusko LGAs

Yobe state Government under the Committee on Resettlement, a Rehabilitation and Reconstruction of Boko Haram and disaster victims in the on Tuesday donated food and non food relief materials to Flood victims of Potiskum and Jakusko Local Government Areas in the state.

Both Local government councils were hit by heavy down pour last week that displaced close to 300 households.

While the flood in Potiskum swept away Adaya community on the outskirts of Potiskum town, that of Jakusko occurs at the heart Jakusko town, the headquarters of Jakusko Local government sacking over 200 household from the house at the middle of the night.

Many of the victims were yet to access their destroyed houses as the water is yet to dry off when our correspondent visited the areas.

The items given to Adaya community include 100 bags of rice, 80 bags of Guinea corn, 10 cartons of noodles, 15 jerrycans of vegetable oils, 10 bags of salt, 25 cartons of bathing soap, bays used cloths, 50 bundles of zinc, 50 packets of nails, 150 plastic buckets, 200 plastic plates 150, 160 pacts of blanket.

In Jakusko, the items donated were 200 bags of rice, 150 bags of Guinea corn, 20 cartons of noddles, 25 jerry cans of vegetable oil, 30 bags of soap, 10 bales of used clothes, 100 bundles of zinc, 150 pack of zinc nails, 350 packs of plastic buckets, 500 plastic cups, 350 plastic plate and 320 blankets.

Receiving the items at Adaya for the Potiskum victims, the Caretaker Chairman Potiskum Local Government Mohammed Musa Potiskum promised that each of the victims will get what is required of them, while pledging that “there will be no cutting corners in the sharing formula as along as I am in charge”.

Hon. Musa Usman lauded the commitment of the State Government under the leadership of Gov. Ibrahim Gaidam alleviating the sufferings of the people.

At Jakusko Local Government the items were presented to the the chairman Hon. Babangida Jaba who expressed gratitude to Gov. Ibrahim Gaidam for seeing to the plight of his people.

Speaking at the presentation, the member representing Jakusko Constituency at the State House of Assembly Hon. Yau Daachia read a riot act for any politician that would want to divert the materials for his or her personal gains at the expense of the victims.

He added that only those affected by the flood will benefit from the state government gesture, adding that himself and all other stakeholders of the local government will revisit the affected people to authenticate the damage to ensure transparency in the sharing formula.

The presentations at the two Local Government Council was done by the Director Rescue and Operation of Yobe State Emergency Management Agency Garba Bilal who represented the Chairman of the Resettlement, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction of Boko Haram and disaster victims who is also the Deputy Governor of Yobe State Engr. Abubakar Aliyu.
