The Yoruba Union, Igbinmọ Majekobaje Ilẹ-Yorub, has called for President Bola Tinubu’s resignation due to soaring fuel prices and worsening economic hardship in the southwest region and Nigeria as a whole. In a statement, Convener Olusola Oluwaseyi Badero criticized the government’s economic policies, which have allegedly plunged many into poverty and turned Nigerians into beggars.
The union condemned the enforcement of IMF policies, arguing that they have suffocated businesses and harmed the Yoruba people. They also criticized the government for allowing fuel prices to surge from ₦600 to ₦900, exacerbating the struggles of Nigerians who can barely afford basic meals.
Badero demanded Tinubu’s resignation and an apology to the Yoruba people for tarnishing their dignity. He pointed out that Tinubu’s policies have led to increased taxes, oppressive measures, and a lack of compassion for his constituents.
The union urged Yoruba people to participate in the October protests, dubbed ‘Fearless in October,’ to voice their discontent with Tinubu’s administration
The union urged Yoruba people to participate in the October protests, dubbed ‘Fearless in October,’ to voice their discontent with Tinubu’s administration. They emphasized that protesting is their constitutional right and vowed to safeguard the interests of the Yoruba people, who have been oppressed by the current regime.
The upcoming protests aim to build upon the momentum created by the previous #EndBadGovernanceinNigeria protests and amplify the voices of Nigerians calling for genuine change.
