The International Organization for Peace Building and Social Justice (PSJ) has disclosed that the Nigerian youth are very creative and innovative set people and as such, they should be empowered to prove their worth.
The Chairman of the Organization, Dr. Richard Ikiebe made the disclosure in Jos on Saturday while speaking at a two-day summit organized for the youth drawn across 36 states of Nigeria.
He said that the primary aim of the summit was to equip the participants with the required information for them to genuinely advocate for peace building and social justice within their domains and to ignite the hope in them, that Nigeria will survive the myriads of challenges bedeviling it.
Dr. Richard Ikiebe explained that the National Summit was organized essentially for the youth who are believed to be the leaders of tomorrow.
“Many people say that the youth are the leaders of tomorrow and a lot of expectations is pinned on them, but what you find is that, nobody is really doing anything to empower them to take responsibility”, he regretted.
“So the whole objective of the summit is to empower the youth with information, the relevant information, historical information, strategic information and even in some cases, professional information upon which they can build the Hope on the nation”, the PSJ Chairman noted.
Dr. Richard who pointed out that PSJ believed that Nigeria is a great place added, “we believe in the peace and in the necessities of social justice in Nigeria, that is why we have organized this”.
According to him, what is important when such event is organized is to see the actions and the responses of the participants.
“What has not been done, what has not been given to them, is the opportunity to prove themselves”, the PSJ Chairman stated.
While equally urging the youth to stop waiting for somebody to spoon-feed them, Richard decried that the youth lacks the needed information that can spur them to reshape Nigeria to greatness.
“If they had the right information, the kind of technological information, the kind of professional information, the kind of historical information, they can stand anywhere in the world on their own”, he assured.
Dr. Richard who noted said that the summit was the maiden edition, declared that PSJ has plans to continue with similar programme in order to get the youth informed to enable them advocate for peace building and social justice across Nigeria.
The summit which began on Friday through to Saturday had a Professor of Theology and Social Ethics, Mr. Yusufu Turaki, Mr. Alex Ladan, Ben Asawe, Samson Bugama, Barr. Ibrahim Buba and Alice Jumoke Fasakin as resource persons.
