A Youth group under the auspices of Evergreen Youth has kickes off a sensitization awareness campaign on public hand washing as a means to mitigate the scourge of covid-19 spread within Jalingo metropolis and its environs.
The event which took place at Nyamusala Jalingo was attended by the ALGON Chairman Taraba State, Hon Abdulnaseer Bobboji thronged the venue with many to Grace the occasion.
Bobboji while acknowledging the contribution and sacrifices made by the youths who to the task of sensitizing the members of the public, he commended the proactive steps taken by the Executive Governor of Taraba State, His Excellency, Arch Darius Dickson Ishaku and called on everyone to put hands on desk towards winning the fight against the spread of the pandemic into Taraba State, “this shouldn’t be left to the Government only, because government cannot curtail this alone, the struggle and fight against this dreaded virus is a collective responsibility; it is my honour and privilege to once again commend the effort of the Evergreen Youths as there is need for other Youth Groups to also emulate that giant step and I also want to assure you that our doors are wide opened to give you all necessary support in terms of the little push that you may require to further create awareness as we continue to insulate and protect our respective communities and state from this unseen enemy”.
The Head of Jalingo Local government Administration, Alhaji Isa Mohammed Inda, spoke on the need to observe social distancing and other means of curbing the transmission as advised by expert, “whenever you are coughing, sneezing or fevering you are advised not to provide medication for yourself, but ensure you go to the hospital for proper medical checkup”.
The Coordinator of the Evergreen Youth Forum, Habu Ardo said that, his group organized this sensitization for the residents of Jalingo in order to support the leadership of Jalingo Local Government and the State in winning the fight against the transmission of the virus into Jalingo and Taraba State at large, “Covid-19 as the name implies stand for the following; the CO stands for Corona, VI stands for virus and D stands for disease while 19 is when the virus was discovered that was 2019” “as Youths and leaders we have a very big role to play towards ensuring our people are well enlightened on all preventive measures put in place to curtail the spread of this global unseen enemy”. Habu Ardo further said, “there is a need for Government at all levels to involve the Youths in carrying out this exercise because they are the ones who live together with the people at the grassroot and they are also familiar with every norm and crany of their respective terrain”. Habu Ardo continued by saying, “immediately after the Innauguration of the Sensitisation committee by the Executive Chairman of Jalingo LGA, Hon abdulnaseer Bobboji; we switched into action at our own level liasing with the Local Government Council in carrying out the Sensitisation exersice, today, we are officially kicking off this campaign and we are going to distribute some materials that will be needed for regular hand washing such as; plastic buckets, Dettol soap and hands Sanitizers e.t.c, we have already identify some locations within Jalingo where this exercise will take place”. He finally concluded.
Today’s exercise was able to cover three areas within Jalingo metropolis namely; Nyamusala Turaki B Ward, Karofi Majidadi Ward and Kofan Daguma at Barade Ward.
