The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced on Friday that the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) has recorded a remarkable 6,856,979 registrants nationwide, with youths and females dominating the figures.
According to a breakdown released by INEC, females account for 3,581,562 (52.23%) of the total registrants, while males make up 3,275,417 (47.77%).
Youths aged 18 to 34 years lead the demographic with 4,689,263 registrants, underscoring their significant engagement in the electoral process. Students constitute 1,728,384 of the total, while Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) number 154,479.
The electoral body further disclosed that within six weeks, completed registrations—combining online pre-registration and physical registration—have reached 1,216,048. Of this figure, online pre-registrations account for 658,766, while physical registrations total 557,282.
Females again lead in completed registrations, making up 675,222 (55.53%) compared to 540,826 (44.47%) for males. Youths aged 18-34 dominate with 897,676 registrants, followed by 424,126 students and 17,450 PWDs.
INEC’s data highlights the growing participation of women and young Nigerians in the democratic process, signaling a vibrant and inclusive electorate as the nation prepares for upcoming elections.
The commission continues to encourage eligible citizens to register, emphasizing the importance of voter participation in shaping Nigeria’s future.
