YPP Launches 2027 Campaign in Adamawa, Names Hon. Theman as Governorship Candidate

The Young Progressives Party (YPP) has officially flagged off its 2027 election campaign in Adamawa State, with Hon. Pharm. Wafarninye Theman Dalatu emerging as the party’s governorship candidate.

The campaign flag-off and primary elections, held on Friday, attracted delegates, party officials, supporters, and stakeholders from across the state. Party leaders described the event as the beginning of a renewed political movement in Adamawa.

At the end of the exercise, Hon. Wafarninye Theman secured 281 votes from delegates to clinch the YPP governorship ticket, positioning him as the party’s standard bearer for the 2027 gubernatorial election.

Other candidates who emerged during the primaries include Mohammed Raji Suleiman, who won the Adamawa Central Senatorial ticket with 142 votes, while Hon. Ahmed Usman Belel emerged unopposed as the candidate for Adamawa South Senatorial District after polling 49 votes.

Speaking shortly after his emergence, Theman expressed gratitude to party members for the confidence reposed in him, describing his victory as both a call to service and a responsibility he is fully prepared to shoulder.

“The best thing a good man can do is to rise to the challenge and take responsibility. Adamawa deserves better, and this is the hour for change,” he stated while addressing supporters.

The YPP governorship candidate emphasized that his ambition represents a fresh opportunity for inclusiveness, youth empowerment, and greater women participation in governance.

“This means a chance for a new beginning, a chance to give young people in Adamawa State the opportunity to aspire to greater heights. It means the opportunity for women to be emancipated. It means inclusivity across all levels,” he said.

Reflecting on his political journey, Theman noted that his emergence was another milestone in a career spanning nearly three decades.

“In 2010, I had a similar opportunity when I contested for the House of Assembly under the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN). That platform helped me move forward politically and gave me the opportunity to deliver. Today, this is another opportunity, but at a higher level as governorship candidate of this great party,” he added.

He explained that his 27 years of political experience — ranging from legislative service and party leadership to grassroots mobilization — has adequately prepared him for the task ahead.

According to him, the people of Adamawa State have long awaited a leadership style that prioritizes inclusion, accountability, and grassroots development.

“This is the time the people of Adamawa State have been waiting for. In the next few months, we will transform Adamawa through our structures down to the ward levels so that every citizen will have a sense of belonging and be free from oppression and harassment,” he added.

Theman also unveiled parts of his development vision for the state, with emphasis on poverty reduction, rural revitalization, human capital development, industrial growth, cultural promotion, environmental sustainability, and accountable governance.

The candidate further stressed the need for strategic reforms aimed at achieving sustainable development and economic prosperity across Adamawa State.

He described himself as “The Architect,” promising to assemble innovative young minds and professionals capable of driving economic transformation and positioning Adamawa among Africa’s emerging economic hubs.

Party officials described the primaries as peaceful, transparent, and credible, expressing confidence that the YPP is fully prepared to provide an alternative platform for the people of Adamawa ahead of the 2027 elections.

Supporters at the event also expressed optimism that the party’s emergence on the political scene would widen democratic participation and deepen political competition in the state.
